Hey everyone! Long time, no see. We will be posted up all day at the Jumble this Saturday 10-4pm rain or shine. As always, we are selling new old stock from ye ole bike shop, but check it out: this year we are selling a bunch of pro tools ranging from lightly to heavily used by yours truly. These are the tools that we figuratively used to jam the gears of the hegemonic apparatus and literally used to fix hundreds of bikes with professional care and passion. We are also doing repairs and accessory installations on our stand! Please come by and say hi to the crew! Nobody turned away for lack of funds.
Today, @briton711 went over to @thehighlinehotelnyc for an on-site bicycle fleet assembly project! They’ll have a small fleet of these pretty @retrospec bikes on hand for their guests soon! They opened up their courtyard for us to set up our repair stand and get to work outside on this beautiful day. Wow, what an amazing building and space. Thanks for looking!

You'll be seeing us at some @nyc_dot events across all the boroughs throughout the spring. We're collaborating with @getwomencycling on some exciting educational opportunities as well as rides. As always, we will continue our work on Long Island at @stonybrooku maintaining the campus wide Wolf Ride bike share system.
Bed-Stuy Bike Shop may be closing it's doors March 4th, but Workers Transport Cooperative will still be working diligently to build NYC's Bicycle Trade School and to deliver great service to communities all across NYC.
It’s with a heavy wrench that Workers Transport has to announce we are closing our retail bike shop after nearly five years of growing the business. As you may or may not know, we are much more than a bike shop. We provide bike share consulting and maintenance services, bike fleet training and education, on-site event bike maintenance, and are starting a mechanic trade school. All of these facets of our cooperative are continuing to grow in 2024. The retail repair shop even grew by quite a bit in 2023. The problem is the same for many businesses and individuals in 2024: rent. The rent is relentless. We came to this beautiful space in May 2022 from the broken glass and disarray of our 1360 Fulton location after being burglarized three times, 50 feet from a 24-hour security booth. Our business plan was solid, but did rely on a few things falling into place faster than they did (we are still waiting for some of them). We tried our hardest to make clear to our landlord that we believed (still do) in the multi-faceted bike services business plan and that we would be able to catch up, but alas, landlords are gonna landlord. We tried to fundraise enough to stay, and we thank everyone for every single dollar sent our way. This funding did help ease the burden of the overhead of the shop, but wasn’t enough. We have to move out and we aren’t relocating the repair shop…yet. We will continue to keep fundraising in traditional ways and through crowdfunding in order to continue to keep our worker owners and to continue to support our new projects. Who knows where 2024 takes us, but as a cooperative we succeed together and as a cooperative we face the hard times, together. We will be open through at least March 4th, so stop by and get one last tune up! This is not the end of Workers Transport Cooperative. Stay tuned, because you WILL see us out there in the streets spreading bike love, fixing bikes, and undermining bosses.
We want to sincerely thank everyone who came out to our comedy fundraiser on Tuesday! We raised $1069 with the help of all sorts of community members coming together to put on a great show that was hilarious and a fun way to use our space. At least one person rode all the way from the Bronx for this show (thx @aslongasyoupedal ). We’ve tagged some people in these photos but we want to give a few special thanks. It’s such a great feeling to know that other business owners have your back in a city where small business is struggling under all the pressures of capitalism.
